All the medications work towards removing some of these causes. The choice of medication depends upon the severity of acne and the possible reason of its formation. Hormonal treatment may be used for women who get acne due to hormonal imbalance. Antibiotics may be used if the acne is infected. Thus one has to use the medication depending upon the cause.

The common methods of acne treatments are-

Topical creams, gels, liquids etc.
Oral medicines that include antibiotics, Isotretinoin and others
Physical and surgical procedures
Light and laser therapy
Skin care for quicker cure etc.

The most common method to treat acne is use of topical medication. Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most popular medicines. Oral medications are used when acne gets difficult to manage with topical treatment and the infection increases. Antibiotics are commonly used to control the infection.
Physical and surgical procedures include draining of acne and extraction of comedones. Light is used to kill the bacteria P. canes. Laser is also used to treat acne. But light and lasers are not very popular. The most popular method is to treat acne topically.
